Get Ready for New Student Orientation
Welcome to Boise State University!
Academic advising is an important part of your orientation process. During New Student Orientation, students meet academic advisors to discuss courses and plan your semester schedule. Your orientation advising experience will go even better if you prepare for it. Here’s how:
New Student Orientation and Academic Advising
- For Virtual Advising and Registration, students will schedule a day and time for their academic advising session. Communications will be sent prior to the advising session with information on required action items to complete as well as reminders of the advising session.
- Virtual Pre-Advising Consultations are available for the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health Sciences, and Advising and Academic Support Center student cohorts and will occur prior to in-person programming. During the session, advisors will discuss Math and English placement and any credit for prior learning that has potentially been received. (Summer Only)
- In-Person Programs will feature meetings with academic advisors for group advising sessions that focus on creating a viable first semester schedule that aligns with University Foundations and major requirements. Placement test results and credit for prior learning will be discussed with students who did not attend a pre-advising consultation. Please bring a laptop to your advising session. Registration support will be provided afterward. (Summer Only)
Additional Steps to Consider
- Take The Right Math Class for math placement. Based on your results, you may be advised to take the Accuplacer to assist in determining accurate math placement.
- Take The Write Class OR the English Writing Assessment to assist with placement for your English class.
- Do you have prior learning credit? Submit your transcripts. Review information on Receiving Credit For Prior Learning.
