Accidental Medical Insurance

The Minors on Campus program has purchased an accidental medical policy on behalf of all University-operated youth programs with coverage for participants of that program. For coverage to apply, the youth program must be registered through Minors on Campus.

The purpose of the insurance is to assist with medical expenses for participants who have sustained a serious injury requiring medical attention while participating in a Boise State youth program. The policy coverage is offered without consideration of fault, negligence or liability and should not be construed or presented under those considerations.

The coverage is excess to any primary health insurance coverage available for the participant as an insured. It will act as primary insurance, should the participant not be covered under any primary health insurance policy.

General Claims Protocol

All injuries sustained by participants enrolled in University youth programs should be reported using the Incident/Accident Form linked here.

Program Directors or Coordinators are responsible for reporting all injury incidents/accidents to Boise State Risk Management, regardless of severity.

Program Directors/Coordinators should follow up with the participant’s parents to determine the participant’s injury status. Serious injuries should be reviewed to determine if primary health insurance is available and applicable and to provide Accidental Medical policy information to the participants when appropriate.

Risk Management (rmi@boisestate.edu) is available to assist with questions or concerns by parents or Program Director/Coordinator regarding the Accidental Medical policy.

Accidental Medical Insurance Process

If the following circumstances are evident, the participant’s parents or guardians should be provided information on the Accidental Medical Insurance to determine if they would like to present a claim for determination under the available coverage:

  1. Serious injury has been sustained by participant; and
  2. Emergency care/treatment and/or physician visits with follow-up treatment is required including surgical intervention, physical/occupational therapy, concussion therapy, etc.
  3. No health insurance for participants; or
  4. Health insurance available with deductibles;
  5. Health insurance available, but treatment may exceed health insurance plan limits.
